Great Tips to succeed that Job Interview

If you have a big job interview coming up, you might benefit from having some tips that will help you be a shoe in for the job that you are seeking for. There are certainly dos and don’ts for interviewing, as I’m sure you know that can make or break your meeting. The first tip is to dress to impress. The second tip is to make sure your cover letter and resume are specifically tailored to that job, and not generic. The third tip is to arrive early so that you have plenty of time to impress you potential new employer.

Paying attention to the way you dress before your interview is a very important tip. Avoid wearing gym socks under your dress pants, and be sure to shower before you put on your clothes. Do not wear loud or flamboyant colors in your tie or your shirts; try to stick to basic blacks, grays or blues when choosing your clothes. Depending on the type of job and the amount of power you have in it, you can deviate from this, as some jobs require you to have a strong personality, and your clothing should say that about you. Men should wear dress shoes, and women should wear heels which can be low or high. For men, their shoes should match their belt.

When writing a resume and cover letter to bring to your interview, be sure to make them specific to the job you are applying for – never presenting a generic resume when you arrive to an interview is a great tip. Interviewers can tell by the generic language and non-specific objective that the resume was not specifically for that position. This will make you work that much harder during the interview to prove that you are the right person for that job. Always make sure you find out who your interview will be with, if possible, so that you can include it in your cover letter. Use natural, conversational language when you write, as using played out phrases can set you back.

Never plan to arrive right on time for a job. When you arrive early, you give yourself time to talk to the receptionist and let your personality shine, you are not rushed, and you can have a moment to take in the scenery of the office. Arrive early by a comfortable amount of time, 10 – 15 minutes. Arriving on time, in many places, is seen as arriving late because your name could be called shortly before you come in the door. Also, it can look bad on you to arrive exactly on time because it means that you gave yourself just enough time to burst through the door when the clock was striking – a mark that you don’t give yourself time to prepare.
